GAY PRIDE IN SEATTLE IN TROUBLE
yesterday organizers of Seattle’s annual celebration of gay pride did an about-face: stating they aren’t going to file for bankruptcy, and they want to plan a downtown parade after all.
Seattle Out and Proud, the group responsible for organizing the June 24 Seattle Pride event, announced they can afford a parade on Fourth Avenue but not the more expensive festival.
In a statement on its Web site, Seattle Out and Proud officials said, “Our 2007 theme is ‘coming together,’ and it is our hope that everyone will do just that, support the parade and all the other community events on pride weekend.”
The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center on Capitol Hill announced Tuesday that it would pick up the torch and pull together a large-scale June 24 festival at Volunteer Park and a parade on Broadway.
It was not clear Wednesday if the center still planned to go ahead with those plans.
