Gay Israel – The Israel Project

At only 60 years old, Israel has become one of the most progressive countries in the world and the most tolerant country in the Middle East in legislating equality for sexual minorities and ensuring their civil and personal rights.  Most recently, on April 25, Israel recognized the first overseas adoption by a gay couple. The 8-year-old Cambodian-born boy was granted Israeli citizenship.

First and foremost, gay rights are protected by law. Gay marriages – performed outside Israel – are recognized by the state, and same-sex couples are permitted to adopt. Gays can serve openly in the military. Gender reassignment surgery is legal and openly performed. The gay community has gained wide acceptance throughout Israeli society, including in the political, legal, military and cultural realms. In fact, the city of Tel Aviv has one of the most flourishing gay communities in the world.

Since the 1990s, Tel Aviv has hosted Israel’s largest gay pride parade; about 20,000 people attended in 2007. The gay nightlife in Tel Aviv rivals that of New York and London, with gay and lesbian bars and clubs open until the morning.

The Israel Project (TIP) is an international non-profit organization devoted to educating the press and the public about Israel while promoting security, freedom and peace. The Israel Project provides journalists, leaders and opinion-makers accurate information about Israel. The Israel Project is not related to any government or government agency.

The Israel Project’s (TIP) Jerusalem Office is a trusted non-governmental resource working with foreign journalists based in Israel. It provides reporters with needed facts and information before they file their stories. TIP’s Jerusalem team features several Middle East experts and former journalists. They host media events and briefings and provide background and sources to the more than 400 reporters permanently assigned to Israel as well as the hundreds of others who report from Israel at key moments in history.

Jim Carrey, Rodrigo Santoro and Ewan McGregor in a Three Way in Miami?

Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor and “Lost” Rodrigo Santoro were spotted at Edison Farrow’s Martini Tuesdays party, at Halo, a South Beach gay bar in Florida, The Miami Herald reports. They reportedly drank champagne (Carrey had water), while doing research for their upcoming film, “I Love You Philip Morris,” a true story about a married father who ends up in prison and falls in love with his cellmate. “Jim’s character is a con artist and an escape artist, who escapes from prison to be with me. It’s an incredible story,” Ewan told the paper. It’s likely no “Brokeback,” but then again, hopefully, it’s no “Boat Trip”!

Andy Warhol’s 2 New York Townhouses Go Up For Sale

   FOR SALE!

The high price for being a  fabulous hot tranny mess!

Andy Warhol’s  Upper East Side (New York City)
townhouse went up  for sale  for  $38 MILLION!

Nestled within the center of New York City’s fashionable Carnegie Hill, this home has everything you would come to expect in a fully renovated and lovingly restored townhouse. Gorgeous woodwork and classic original details convey elegance and charm, while the upgraded mechanicals, plumbing, heating, A/C, and new appliances offer every modern convenience.

According to NYMAG, former Viacom head Tom Freston  is selling his 4 bedroom Upper East Side townhouse, which also happens to be the house that Andy Warhol lived in from 1974 to 1987. Of course, you’re not likely to find any stray Basquiat doodles (or, you know, ‘ludes) from back in the day lying around. Freston renovated the hell out of the place, adding a luxurious rooftop terrace, four bedrooms, a library, chef’s kitchen, staff suite, gym, and seven wood-burning fireplaces, and the only real sign that Andy ever lived there is the little red plaque on the front of the house, “Andy Warhol: 1928-1987”  –

57 E 66th street –  The cool vibes and the amenities will set you back a mere $38.5 million, which if you think about it is only half of what someone paid for Warhol’s Car Crash just last year. (Taxes  are $6000 a month!)

Warhol paid  $300,000 for the house in 1974.

ALSO FOR SALE, his townhouse at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/30/realestate/30deal1.html?_r=1&ex=1207454400&en=99576d428f9aaecf&ei=5070&emc=eta1&oref=slogin. This one is only  $6  million.
Warhol lived here from 1959 – 1974. The asking price is $5.99 million. The house has ornate wood moldings and paneling, and original mantels. But it is not as large as many Upper East Side town houses, and fronts on Lexington Avenue rather than a quieter side street. ( It is 48 feet deep on a 62-foot lot — while most town house lots on side streets are about 100 feet deep — and has just over 3,000 square feet, according to city tax records.)

Raymond Dragon Leaves Porn And Returns To His Designer Roots

Raymond Dragon’s fashion label—founded in 1990 with only $1,500 and a collection of sample fabrics—found an initial niche in the gay community. Designing sportswear that accentuated the male physique, his fashions were often considered to be homoerotic; he was later recognized as an industry leader for having introduced stretch fabrics to men’s fashion.

Gaining popularity in a wider audience, Dragon’s line appeared in magazines such as Details , Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Detour, Out, Ocean Drive, Rolling Stone, Spy, The Advocate, and several exercise and fitness magazines. His clients have included such notables as Tom Cruise, Gregory Hines, and Aaron Neville.

Dragon’s creations have also appeared on Broadway in productions of Rent, Chicago, and Fosse. Among others, the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham dance companies have used his clothes for costumes, as has the Royal Copenhagen Ballet and Frankfurt Ballet.  His clothing line was been discontinued  and his New York store closed, after September 11th.

“After September 11, there was a pretty permanent drop in business,” he explains. The trendsetter was then faced with a career decision: go corporate with his style skills, or hone another set of talents altogether. He chose the latter.

“To sell my soul for fashion? I couldn’t do it,” he says. Instead, he embraced what may seem like a surprising alternative: directing, producing and starring in porn.

Even though Dragon has been a major success in the porn biz—and was inducted into adult entertainment’s GAYVN Hall of Fame in 2007— he feels the time is right to jump back into the retail scene. “There’s a huge hole in the swimsuit market right now,” he says, adding that his new line will soon include men’s underwear and dancewear (Dragon does ballet, along with Bikram yoga and regular gym workouts, to stay in shape).

Though he hasn’t yet found a local retailer in New York, his suits are being carried at shops in both San Francisco and L.A., as well as online. And the porn? His popular porn site is still going strong; as far as returning to the studio, he’ll wait and see. “I don’t know if making films is my passion,” he says. “But I do believe the universe kind of pushes you in a direction sometimes.”

2ND ANNUAL TRUE COLORS TOUR! With Cyndi Lauper, B-52’s, Rosie O’Donnell and More!

CYNDI LAUPER,THE B-52s, ROSIE O’DONNELL AND SPECIAL GUESTS CELEBRATE THE SECOND ANNUAL TRUE COLORS TOUR PRESENTED BY LOGO AS THEY TAKE THE STAGE TO “GET OUT THE VOTE”
WITH HOST CARSON KRESSLEY!

The True Colors Tour will hit the road again this summer with an exciting new line-up of legendary and up and coming artists. After receiving rave reviews and a successful debut in 2007, the True Colors Tour is expanding to meet demand in many more cities. The tour will kick off Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month on May 31 at Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion.

Produced by True Colors Concerts in partnership once again with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the 24 city North American tour is presented by Logo in support of the newly created True Colors Fund of Stonewall Community Foundation. The concerts feature nearly five hours of nonstop music with exciting special guests appearing on select dates throughout the tour including Wanda Sykes, Tegan and Sara, Regina Spektor, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Joan Armatrading, Indigo Girls, Nona Hendryx, Deborah Cox and The Cliks.

The True Colors Tour was conceived by Cyndi Lauper stemming from her desire to give back to the community for the love and support they have given her throughout her career.  The True Colors Tour is a celebration of the basic values and freedoms that should be shared by all Americans. Fans will experience these values through the music of both legendary icons and the newest and coolest acts this generation has to offer.

“I’m so excited and honored that we’re taking True Colors out on the road again this year,” said tour producer and creator Cyndi Lauper.  “We had a blast last year and we are proud that the tour also brought about visibility and discussions of issues that LGBT citizens face in our country today. This year I am once again joined on the tour by an array of incredibly talented artists. The tour is a non stop 5 hour music party with a message. This year the party only gets bigger and our message to the fans is to get out and vote in November. The True Colors Tour asks for equality for all, not just for some, that is the principal upon which this country was founded. So let’s celebrate and have fun this summer while we spread the word to get out the vote and all become a part of the changes in this country.”

“Thanks to the overwhelming success of the first True Colors tour last year, we were able to send a loud and unmistakable message to all Americans that it is past time our federal hate crimes laws be updated to  include sexual orientation and gender identity. This year, we are going to build on the grassroots power of the tour by launching a massive, nonpartisan voter outreach campaign that will educate, engage and organize equality voters in this year’s election,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “This year’s True Colors Tour will provide us with an historic opportunity to organize our community to achieve a powerful voice in the 2008 elections.”

The True Colors Tour is presented by Logo and produced by True Colors Concerts, LLC in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign. For the second year, SIRIUS Satellite Radio is the exclusive national radio partner of The True Colors Tour.  Various SIRIUS talk and music channels will promote True Colors, with flagship station SIRIUS OutQ – America’s LGBT Radio Station – creating a tour-long campaign spotlighting the True Colors mission.  SIRIUS OutQ will also exclusively air a True Colors concert performance.

Rosie O’Donnell and Danny Noriega and Cyndi Lauper

If you make it to the top 20 on American Idol, and are good enough, there’s a very good chance you will get work! Cutie Danny Noriega may have been voted off last week, but within days, had an offer from Rosie O’Donnell!

Rosie O’Donnell was filming a video blog while appearing on Kathy Griffin’s “Life on the D-List” – In one on the posts she  presented Danny with an offer to come cruise with her and Cyndi Lauper on an R Family Cruise to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!

“I don’t know if you have to sit around the American Idol studio and look sad for the next few weeks — because I think that’s part of the contract,” joked O’Donnell. “[But] you got a free cruise. You and a friend.”

But O’Donnell expects the young singer to work for his vacation. “Come on there, and I want you to sing ‘Tainted Love,’” she says. “I think you’re fantastic. And I think you’re a bold and brave and beautiful young man. And I admire you, Danny Noriega. You have an amazing voice. And your hair looks good straight.”

Also on the cruise: O’Donnell’s pal and True Colors Tour partner Cyndi Lauper. The combination, O’Donnell says, would make a perfect duet — or trio! Says the comedienne: “You can sing with her — and me — onstage.”

You go girl(s)!

k.d.lang – Gay Travel and The Gay / Lesbian Traveler

Hot on the heels of her recent new album, WATERSHED, k.d.lang talks to THE OUT TRAVELER about her travel habits!

“I Always Like to Go Places I’ve Never Been”….

k.d.’s travel tips:

Five travel essentials:

I travel so light that it’s insane. I take one bag no matter where I go, no matter how long I go for. So in that is always my passport; my rosewater spray, which I always have to have; my mala [Buddhist prayer beads]; my iPhone . . . and . . . I think I only have four things, that’s how light a traveler I am.

Japan:

A culture [in Japan] that is dying, unfortunately, is the public baths. I think they are so amazing and such a beautiful part of Japanese tradition. I always seek them out.

Australia:

Australia is my favorite place to eat, bar none. In Sydney [my favorite eatery is] Longrain, which is a Thai restaurant but very cutting-edge. That’s a great place to eat.

Santa Barbara, Calif.:

I just finished a tour at Santa Barbara. I was finished at 8:30 p.m. and changed my clothes immediately and rushed to La Super-Rica, which is one of my favorite taco stands. Just an amazing place. I usually go to more ethnic, more low-key hole-in-the-wall places.

Michael Lucas is Cleaning House And Selling His Clothes

going  going  gone!

Michael Lucas  has been liquidating his closets  at  his studio!

“After a week, we sold about forty percent of the old wardrobe which was used in our films like Dangerous Liaisons, The Intern, Michael Lucas’ La Dolce Vita, Gigolo, and others. Not only have we emptied half of the numerous racks piled in our studio, but so far we have made enough to finance an incredible wardrobe for our big, annual blockbuster set to be filmed this summer.

There was a wide variety of buyers, from label queens bidding only on Dolce & Gabana shoes and Hermes sweaters to fans bidding on heavily-used sneakers. And of course there was my favorite item that sold—my Calvin Klein underwear, which received 22 bids and went for $123.50!

The good news is that I was emptying my storage over the weekend and now I’m going to get rid of another couple hundred items which I no longer use because, you know, how much clothing can one person have? 🙂 So here’s the deal, folks: the eBay sale is going to go on! “

GAY TRAVEL SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE DEBUTS

According to an article at GayWired this weekend, Gaypedia.com , a new online travel information and social networking portal that aims to become the largest database of destinations, venues and events specifically designed for the gay and lesbian community officially launched this week

Sensing an opening in the marketplace for a travel information website that allowed gays and lesbians to search for venues and events in a given location during specified dates, the Gaypedia.com team dove headfirst into building a social networking site where their team as well as members would add content, upload photos and videos, and produce travel diaries about events and vacations that could be shared with gaypedia friends around the globe.

“The gay world changes so quickly that we were finding information in travel guides to be constantly out-of-date or inaccurate,” says Ryan Haynes, Gaypedia.com’s Marketing Manager. “With such a large international gay community and pride festivals getting bigger and bigger we designed a site where gays and lesbians can find everything in one place.”

Simultaneously the site also hopes to keep the international GLBT community up to date on the gay friendly destinations where they can safely vacation without fear of discrimination or homophobia, as well as places within the boundaries of less gay friendly destinations that are gay and lesbian havens.

“It was essential we included a section detailing legislation and equality for homosexuals in each destination, many countries still discriminate against us however there is often a strong underground gay scene. Gaypedia will give travelers the insider information,” Haynes said.

Gaypedia.com expects to eventually branch out into all aspects of gay and lesbian lifestyles to provide an integrated interactive information portal, but will launch with over 45 destinations, 1,500 venues and nearly 100 events worldwide as well as its fully integrated Gaypedia mapping service which identifies where all venues and events are within a chosen city, courtesy of a gay Googling tool.

BUMP! The Ultimate Gay Travel Companion Enters Third Season

Bump! is the world’s first gay and lesbian travel and lifestyle television series. It is unique and international in scope. In each episode Bump! presents a new gay-friendly destination in a stylish and upbeat format.

Bump! travels the globe in search of fascinating gay human-interest stories. From gay tourism hotspots like Miami and London, to urban centres such as Montreal and Los Angeles, Bump! focuses its lens on gay and lesbian communities around the globe.

Finding a gay and lesbian-friendly travel destination doesn’t mean having to focus on the well-known gay villages or tourism hotspots in urban centres anymore.

Charlie David, (from Dante’s Cove) Canadian co-host of the American TV series “Bump,” has found gay and lesbian-centric getaways in remote corners of the world as travel companies and governments cater to the culture.

“What I’m finding more and more and what we’re discovering through the series is gay and lesbian life around the world is becoming less and less ghetto-ized, which is fantastic,” David, who hails from Yorkton, Sask., said in a phone interview.

“I don’t mean ghetto in kind of a derogatory type of term, just, you know, a group of people living together. They were developed out of being kind of safe havens for people in many ways, and now it’s not as much needed.”

“Bump,” which kicks off its third season on Outtv in Canada this week, takes viewers to places and events that are of interest to the LGBT – lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender/transsexual – traveller.

David has been with the show since Season 2 and has journeyed to dozens of cities, some of which are hidden-gem vacation spots for LGBT tourists. Examples include a little fishing village in Brazil called Paraty, a ski resort in Telluride, Colo., and Calgary – one of David’s favourites.

“Oh my gosh, I loved Calgary … OK, I like cowboys,” David, who is openly gay himself, laughed over the line from Los Angeles.

“But Calgary for me, I guess, being from Saskatchewan originally, it’s very similar. It feels like home. But they are so friendly there. It is such a friendly city and we showcased the gay rodeo while we were there and to see the sportsmanship of those guys and gals out there riding the bulls and doing all their rodeo contests, it was crazy.”

That’s not to say the series doesn’t highlight the more popular gay neighbourhoods and events like splashy pride parades. It’s just that while there, David and his camera crew also seek out spots that are relevant to LGBT culture but not heavily promoted.

“I think the best example is when we did Paris, I didn’t go and do a piece on the Eiffel Tower,” said David, whose co-host is lesbian playwright Shannon McDonough.

“So pieces that I did there were a tour of Musee d’Orsay from a homosexual perspective in terms of which artists might have been gay or had that influence or through the art . . . Or a tour of Le Marais, which is almost like Church Street in Toronto, that type of thing.”

With travel corporations creating gay and lesbian cruises, resorts and hotels, “it’s more difficult to, in some ways, find some of those extremely gay-centric or gay-only type of neighbourhoods and places,” said David.

“Buenos Aires was an amazing example of that, as well as throughout Scandinavia,” he said.

“There, it’s not like you’ll have a Church Street (in Toronto) or a Davie Village in Vancouver or that type of thing. There are establishments that are either gay or lesbian-friendly, or gay-owned or lesbian-owned, throughout the whole city and it’s not so much of, like, ‘Oh, this is the only place that’s safe for us,’ which I think is a huge statement because that would not have been the scenario 20 years ago.”

Government sponsorship is also helping, he said.

“There are places in Greenland that are really strongly advocating, you know, ‘Hey, gay and lesbian tourists, come visit here. We’re an open city, we’re an open place, you can come dog sledding, you can have a completely different experience,’ and that’s awesome,” said David.

HILLARY CLINTON WITH APPEAL TO GAY AMERICANS

Senator Hillary Clinton issued an open letter to LGBT Americans Monday, saying “America is embracing its LGBT sons and daughters with an acceptance and understanding as never before.”

By Senator Hillary Clinton

As I have traveled around the country these past twelve months, what I sensed in my heart has been confirmed – America is embracing its LGBT sons and daughters with an acceptance and understanding as never before. On the campaign trail, a father of a gay son will ask about ending Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. A woman will ask why she can be discriminated against just because of who she is. Sometimes they wait furtively for the crowd to thin and then whisper their confidences in a soft voice and sometimes they stand up proudly at town meetings and want me to share my views on how I will help lead the change to assure that this country fulfills its promise to everyone.

Let me tell you what I have been telling voters across America. I am fully committed to the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans. For seven long years, the Bush Administration has tried to divide us – only seeing people who matter to them. It’s been a government of the few, by the few, and for the few. And no community has been more invisible to this administration than the LGBT community.

I will change that. The best evidence of what I will do as President is what I have already done.

I am proud of my record as First Lady, as a U.S. Senator and as a candidate for President in working toward the fair and equal treatment of LGBT Americans.

· I am proud that as Chair of the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee in 2006, I worked closely with LBGT community to develop a smart strategy that defeated the Federal Marriage Amendment. I am proud of fighting the FMA as divisive wedge politics at its worst.

· I am proud to be a co-sponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, and the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligation Act which would grant the same benefits (including health insurance) to domestic partners of federal employees that are currently offered to employees’ legal spouses.

· I am proud to have authored the Early Treatment for HIV Act, which expands access to vital treatment options for low-income individuals living with HIV, and fought to fully fund the Ryan White CARE Act.

· I am proud that I hired a National Director of LGBT Outreach within a month of announcing my candidacy for President and to have openly gay and lesbian staffers serving at all levels of my campaign.

· I am proud to have a National LGBT Steering Committee of over 130 that includes openly LGBT elected officials, Board members and opinion leaders on issues ranging from transgender rights, to HIV/AIDS, to “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”.

· I am proud to have marched in Gay Pride parades as both First Lady and as Senator and to have spoken in front of so many LGBT audiences ranging from the Human Rights Campaign, Empire State Pride Agenda, the Hetrick Martin Institute, PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis), and the American Foundation for AIDS Research.

· I am proud to have fought Republican efforts to demonize and marginalize the LGBT community, and I will continue to do that as President.

We have so much work to do. When I am President, we will work together to make sure that all Americans in committed relationships have equal benefits and that nothing stands in the way of loving couples who want to adopt children in need. We’re going to expand our federal hate crimes legislation and pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and assure that they are both fully inclusive of all people. And finally, we will put an end to the failed policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Courage, honor, patriotism and sacrifice – the traits that define our men and women in uniform – have nothing to do with sexual orientation.

My father was a conservative Republican, who held very traditional views for much of his life. Yet in his last years, it was a gay couple who lived next door who provided much of the compassion and comfort he and my mother needed as he grew ill. And it was that same neighbor who held his hand as he died. If my father can move, America can move.

To each and every LGBT American, I say this. You have done so much to help this country understand your lives by simply being open and honest about who you are and living your lives with dignity. Thank you for your courage. It is time that we recognize your hard work. I know that this country is ready for changes in the law that reflect the evolution in our hearts.

America deserves a President who appeals to the best in each of us, not the worst; a President who values and respects all Americans and treats all Americans equally no matter who they are or who they love. I want to be that President. I want to be your President.

A Cuban minister who accepts gay marriages and traveling permits for Cubans wishing to leave or travel to the island may finally be eliminated, seem to be evidence of a new tolerant environment in the continent’s longest lasting dictatorship.

Public statements were made during a debate sponsored by interim president Raúl Castro, brother of ailing Fidel, to bring to light shortcomings and disappointments with the system and thus help to “deepen communism”.

Culture Minister Abel Prieto, a member of the party’s powerful Politburo, said Tuesday night that he supports gay marriage, and Silvio Rodriguez, an ardent defender of Fidel Castro as well as a leading voice of the Cuban revolution, said he believes all Cubans should be free to travel abroad and stay in hotels currently reserved for foreign tourists.

“I think that marriage between lesbians, between homosexuals can be perfectly approved and that in Cuba that wouldn’t cause an earthquake or anything like that,” Prieto told a small group of reporters following the presentation of a documentary on Rodriguez’s career at Havana’s Museum of Fine Arts.

Cuban lawmakers have received a proposal to allow gay marriages, though its progress in the legislature, which usually only meets twice a year, remains unclear.
