GAY Russia – Not So Much
Lawmakers in Russia just passed a draconian censorship law that would
impose stiff fines for anything construed as “the promotion of
homosexuality” in Saint Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city.
Reading, writing, speaking or reporting on anything related to gay,
lesbian bi or trans (LGBT) people would become a criminal act. This ban
on “promotion” would also target Pride parades, literature, theater, or
NGOs that openly serve LGBT people.
All Out, a community of
almost a million people around the world fighting for full equality,
made a little video to send the Governor a message.
Pass this law – We
Won’t Go There.

Some of the Best attractions in Boston
Some of the Best
attractions in Boston
Boston City in Massachusetts is a diverse place filled with various historical and cultural landmarks. Boston is the biggest city in New England, also regarded as Massachusetts capital city. Amongst the many hotels in Boston you have to choose from you will also be in the presence of some amazing attractions.
Home to world-famous Harvard University and MIT, Boston is a hub for education. Tourists flocked to the place because of Boston’s numerous attractions. A plethora of fun-filled recreational activities await the visitor including the following:
Taking a leisurely hike in the Freedom Trail will transport you to the olden times when America was young. The trail enables the traveler to experience Boston on a more personal level. The trail is two and a half kilometers long which starts at the Boston Common and ends at the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown.
The trail provides views to the most historically significant places in Boston such as the Old State House, Old South Meeting House, Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall, USS Constitution, Paul Revere’s Residence, The North End, the site of Boston Massacre and other Revolutionary landmarks.
The Bunker Hill Monument is another historical place that hikers will pass by as they trod the Freedom Trail. The Bunker Hill is the site where the Revolutionary War between American soldiers and British troops was waged. A giant obelisk about 200 feet in height stands as a commemorative symbol of the brave soldiers who lost their lives during the war.
Faneuil Hall Marketplace is one of the most visited landmarks in all of US, accounting for 20 million visitors in 2011. It ranked fourth most popular tourist destination next only to Times Square, Las Vegas Strip and National Mall and Memorial Parks.
The Faneuil Hall was built by Peter Faneuil in 1742. This is a festive marketplace housing hundreds of stores for dining, shopping and drinking. It is located between North, Congress and State streets. It is a commercial center of the city. It is also known for its historical significance particularly when Samuel Adams delivered his speech about independence. Most of the visitors frequenting the place today are shoppers who are looking for great finds.
Boston has a number of world-class museums known for their extensive collection of artifacts and other precious pieces. The Museum of Fine Art is the biggest and most popular which houses more than 450,000 pieces of art. More than a million tourists visit the museum each year. Other notable museums in Boston include Harvard Fogg Museum, Boston Beer Museum and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Why not treat yourself to one of the many luxury hotels in Boston and take in the finer traits of the city.
Captain Francesco Schettino Jailed Facing Manslaughter
The Captain does NOT always,
go down with his ship.
Captain Francesco Schettino was in charge of the ship that ran aground off Italy. He is jailed and is being
interrogated by prosecutors and a judge will decide on whether to keep
him under arrest for allegedly abandoning the vessel before rescue
efforts ended.
The questioning today in the city of Grosseto comes as details emerged
about Schettino’s actions after the Costa Concordia
hit rocks off Giglio Island near the Tuscan coast at 9:45 p.m. on Jan.
13.
Schettino was ordered by a Coast Guard official to return to the
cruise liner to help with rescue efforts about three hours after the
accident, according to audio of telephone conversations between them
posted on daily Corriere della Sera’s website today. But he fled the scene.
“Get back on the ship and tell me how many people are still there,”
Coast Guard Commander Gregorio Maria De Falco, speaking from the city of
Livorno on the Italian mainland, told Schettino, according to the tape.
“Tell me if there are women, children and people in need there.”
Schettino didn’t return to the ship and took a taxi on Giglio before
being arrested, media including Sky TG24 said. He is accused of
manslaughter and abandoning the Costa Concordia when passengers were
still on board “since we know he was in the harbor about midnight,”
Francesco Verusio, chief prosecutor in Grosseto, said in a Jan. 15
interview. He is also accused of causing the accident that left at least
six people dead.
A gay couple from Austin Texas escaped to safety. Fortunately the couple had read about the location of the
lifeboats. – See why it is important to pay attention to safety features?!
Cruise Ship in Italy Runs Aground – Several Dead, Many Missing
Ever since Poseidan Adventure, this is my worst fear –
Italian authorities were questioning Saturday the captain of a cruise
ship that ran aground, knocking the vessel on its side and killing at
least three people, with dozens more missing, officials said.
“Fear and panic are comprehensible in a ship long over 300 meters
with over 4000 passengers,” Del Santo said. “We can confirm that the
ship has a breach on the hull of about 90 meters, and that the right
side of it is completely under water.”
The three persons dead were two French tourists and a crew member from Peru, Port authorities in Livorno said.
A spokesman with the local civil protection agency, said 40 to 60 persons were missing, though authorities are reviewing passenger lists
to confirm the exact figure. Many people jumped – who did not want to wait for the lifeboats.

Is Tel Aviv The Best Gay City?
TEL AVIV is being touted by some
as THE BEST GAY CITY.
Hmmmm, really? The BEST? We have watched Tel Aviv grow in popularity over the last 5 years. They do have a powerful PR and Marketing team, I will give them that. Their presence in the media has grown at leaps and bounds over the last 5 years. But are they the BEST? or perhaps the best up-and-coming?
In a world-wide survey hosted GayCities.com and American Airlines,
43 percent of voters cast their ballot in favor of the White City,
pushing it ahead of other proud towns including New York, Toronto and
London.
(New York City with 14 per cent, Toronto with 7 per cent, Sao Paulo with 6 per cent, Madrid and London with 5 per cent each and New Orleans and Mexico City with 4 per cent each.)
I think it all just depends on who you ask and who is surveyed! Tel Aviv is the gay mecca of the Middle East, for sure, and boasts of plenty of
designers, fashionistas, night clubs, fancy beaches, shopping malls and
outlets, DJs, women activists, gays, jews and financiers. You really
couldn’t find a more open-minded place like Tel Aviv outside of Israël. Tel Aviv, in sharp contrast to Jerusalem, is a liberal, hedonistic and secular city, where leisure life revolves around beaches, cafes and nightclubs.
Lonely Planet named it one of its top three cities in the world for
2011, describing it as “the flipside of Jerusalem, a modern Sin City on
the sea rather than an ancient Holy City on a hill” and adding: “There
are more bars than synagogues, God is a DJ and everyone’s body is a
temple.” The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is rarely on the radar.
According to Tel Aviv’s 30-year-old deputy mayor, Asaf Zamir, 16% to 17% of the city’s 403,000 population is gay.
“It’s
a very strong community here, a comfortable arena for the gay
community. Two men walking hand in hand is a very normal thing,” he
said.
The city municipality funded a gay centre and was promoting gay tourism, he added.
They even have a gay pride parade each year – that has grown to about 100,000 local people! And also about 5,000 gay tourists.
Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Prague…there are so many amazing choices. Just depends on what you want? Value? Nighlife? Culture?
As for Tel Aviv – The weather is hot, the guys are hot, it’s a hot city!

Gay Marriage Comes to Cancun Mexico in 2012 #gaytravel
Everybody wants a
piece of that pink dollar!
The city-state of Mexico City legalized
gay marriage in 2010 and remains the only municipality in Mexico
where such marriages are officially allowed.
Now Cancun and other resort areas on the Mexican Caribbean will have a new attraction for gay and lesbian couples from the US, Canada
and Europe, allowing them to legalize their unions thanks to a quirk in
the local civil code, activist Patricia Novelo.
Novelo said that in January the first same-sex group wedding will be
held in the resort area as part of local support for the human rights of
the gay community.
Gay travel groups in the state say they
are now preparing to market the state as a destination for gay
couples to marry and will promote a mass wedding of gay couples
sometime in January. (It was not clear whether the first 8 confirmed
couples would wed in separate ceremonies.)
The gay travel groups say that travel
agencies on average receive about 200 requests per month from gay
tourists wishing to marry in the Mexican Caribbean.
Annual Gay Travel Data from Community Marketing
NEW YORK CITY is #1, again, for the 16th year in a row, as the #1 Gay Destination.
San Francisco-based Community Marketing, Inc. just released their yearly data. And while some of the results will be less-than-shocking (gay New York City gets high scores, as does gay Miami and gay New Orleans), there are still a few surprises in the 40-page report.
The 16th annual survey of its kind analyzes online responses from more than 6,700 U.S. residents and 540 Canadians, completed between September 20 and October 31, 2011.
Based on the survey and Department of Commerce tourism statistics, CMI estimates that gay and lesbian tourism generates more than $65 billion a year in the U.S. alone.
Here are some of the more interesting findings of this year’s survey:
1. Economy be damned! Overall, the gay and lesbian community reported more trips in the past 12 months, while travel had been down in the past two years’ surveys. Both men and women took an average of more than three leisure trips in the past year.
2. Still, gay travelers like saving money, too. More LGBT travelers call themselves “economy/budget travelers” than “luxury travelers” (though the mid-range market is still the largest). And high percentages of gay men said that discount-laced LGBT hotel packages were motivating factors when choosing accommodations (not so much for lesbians).
3. Kids rule. Once gay globetrotters become parents, the importance of “family-friendly” trumps “gay-friendly” when planning getaways.
4. Anti-gay, stay away? Not always. – I found this one shocking actually. Only about one third of gay men and lesbians avoid destinations with anti-gay laws, indicating that destination boycotts are not so effective (though corporate boycotts are, according to CMI focus groups). More of a deterrent to those surveyed are recent reports of gay bashings—though the two considerations are often intertwined.
5. Location matters. The most important hotel amenities for LGBT travelers are great location and free WiFi. When it comes to choosing one hotel over another, price and gay-friendly reputation are top priorities.
6. Warm weather is a motivator. The majority of respondents surveyed indicated that they are a “warm-weather traveler” rather than an “outdoor/active adventure traveler,” “luxury traveler” or “winter/ski traveler.”
7. Honeymoons are a factor. Of respondents who were legally married or partnered within the past 5 years (577 couples), 43% went on a honeymoon, with 50% traveling to warm-weather destinations.
NYC still rules. And Miami’s back! Gay New York City has retained its position as the #1 leisure (as well as business/leisure combined) destination for all 16 years of CMI’s survey, and in fact this year saw a slight increase over the traditional #2 and #3 spots of gay San Francisco and gay Las Vegas, respectively.
Miami saw significant gains, and is back in the top 10 of USA destinations after being out of the combined leisure/business category since 2006. – I find that one interesting. Most of my friends agree that Miami is so over. The gay vibe has faded and straight people rule the city.
Also in the top 20: Ft. Lauderdale, Seattle, New Orleans, Napa and Provincetown. In Europe, the top destination is England; in Canada, it’s Montreal; in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta.

American Airlines Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, Inc. and AMR
Eagle Holding Corporation (American Eagle), announced yesterday that it
filed voluntary petitions for Chapter 11 reorganization in the U.S.
Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
American Airlines passengers should not expect any near-term changes, but the bankruptcy filing may affect their future plans.
The Chapter 11 reorganization of American
Airlines and its parent company AMR Corp could lead to a shakeup in
prices, fewer flights and an altered flying experience.
American sent a letter on Tuesday to its frequent
flyers saying, “We want to assure you that your AAdvantage miles are
secure,” and noting its intent to honor existing program awards.
Airlines tend to protect their mileage programs
throughout bankruptcy, he said, because they make money selling miles to
credit card issuers, and even passengers trading in miles fill seats
and spend money.
American may cut prices to keep planes full
and nervous passengers buying tickets for a slow January and February,
but those are typical sale periods for the airlines.
“As
always we will remain competitive with fares in the marketplace,” said
Tim Smith, an American spokesman. Parsons said he expects American to
price aggressively over the winter, perhaps adding extra miles rewards
and the like, to keep up customer confidence.
But the longer-term impact of an airline
bankruptcy is higher ticket prices, not lower ones. As American uses
this reorganization to get rid of many big, pricey, old planes, it may
cut their routes. “With fewer planes in the sky and fewer seats, you may
be forced to pay more,” said Parsons.
Once
American emerges from bankruptcy, it will be less likely to price
aggressively, said Morningstar’s Alukos. “Future ticket prices should be
higher.”

Liverpools Gay Quarter Installs LGBT Street Signage
Liverpool’s “Gay Quarter” (sometimes Liverpool gay village or the “Stanley Street Quarter”) is a relatively modern term to identify the gay scene in Liverpool.
The area encompasses Stanley Street, Cumberland Street, Victoria St and Eberle St, and is where the bulk of the gay bars and clubs are located in Liverpool, in North West England. Stanley St is the main hub of the gay quarter and is where most of the bars are found. On 12th August 2011, the area received official recognition by Liverpool City Council.
Liverpool’s gay quarter was pedestrianised in December 2009.
Stanley Street is now closed to traffic between 10pm-6am seven days of
the week, Cumberland Street is closed between 6pm-6am seven days of the
week, and Eberle Street is closed for 24 hours of the day seven days of
the week.
Liverpool is now the first city in the UK to officially recognise its gay quarter with street signs.
The new signs will
incorporate a rainbow arch and will be used on Stanley Street,
Cumberland Street, Temple Lane, Eberle Street and Temple Street.
The first sign was unveiled outside the Lisbon pub on Stanley Street
by the Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Sharon Sullivan, in a ceremony to
be attended by representatives of the LGBT communities, local
businesses and residents.
Councillor Nick Small, member for employment and skills, said: “We
need to start unleashing the enormous economic potential of the Stanley
Street quarter and as one of the first moves we have to show that this
is our gay village.”
Over the next 2-3 years, much more will done to beautify and bring attention to this neighborhood!

Amtrak Dealing With WiFi Gay Issues This week
Despite opposition from anti-gay groups such a the Family Research
Institute, in recent years, Amtrak has been very active in marketing to
the LGBT communities.
While they are not painting the cars rainbow colors anytime soon, they are a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association; and they operate a website design specifically for LGBT travelers, Amtrakridewithpride.com; and has been a sponsors of many gay events.
Last week Amtrak confirmed that it is conducting a soft launch of free WiFi service on its
Northeast Regional trains, which include those serving Washington, DC.
WiFi is already available on its Acela trains, some regional trains on
the west coast and at select stations. Amtrak is expect to provide a
formal update next week about its expansion efforts.
Of course they are trying to block porn on the train. But some LGBT news sites were also blocked. Christina Leeds, a media representative for Amrak, also acknowledged
reports that some websites, such as the one for the Seattle Gay News,
were being blocked by the third-party automated system that is employed
by the organization to filter inappropriate content.
They still DO NOT allow dogs to travel – which I wish they would do something about that.
Warsaw Poland Plane Lands with no Wheels! Everyone is safe
A LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 767 from Newark to Warsaw carrying 230 passengers was forced to make a wheels-up emergency landing after its landing gear failed. The plane circled Warsaw for more than an hour burning off fuel. Thankfully, someone experienced was at the helm: “The pilot, identified as Tadeusz Wrona, had 20 years of flight experience on Boeings in addition to his background as a flight planner.” It is amazing how smooth the landing was, with no wheels!
Watch the video of the safe landing.
Boeings 787 Dreamliner Delivers More Comfortable Rides
Nobody really likes flying… right?
It’s uncomfortable and cramped. Unless of course you are lucky enough to travel in First Class.
However, Boeing has found a way to actually reduce passenger fatigue and increase passenger comfort in flight. How? The strength of the carbon composite exteriors allows for lower cabin pressure and higher humidity levels, which has been shown to dramatically increase passenger comfort. Higher ceilings and larger, auto-dimming windows have also been added.
Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner has arrived! While not everyone can afford a private jet for their next vacation, thanks to Boeing’s technology using new plastic-reinforced carbon composite materials passengers can travel in luxury without the additional costs.
Additionally, the airplane’s reduced weight reduces fuel consumption by 20 percent compared to traditional aluminum planes! Boeing is relying on high performance plastics to revolutionize air travel.
Will American Airlines Announce Bankruptcy Plan Oct.14th?
If you buy a ticket with a credit card, then you won’t be on the hook if your airline goes under. In fact, when airlines start to find themselves in financial trouble, credit card processors hold back a larger and larger percentage of the money until the flight occurs.
Shares of American Airlines parent AMR lost a big chunk of their value last week after numerous reports that the company was facing a threat of bankruptcy.
Rumors have been swirling all week, but on October 14th, “A big announcement” is coming, AA employees tell me.
Even though the company has $5 billion in the bank – the have not posted any profits this year.
There is no reason to avoid booking with AA. Just use a credit card. (Not debit) Which most of us do anyways.
That way, if the airline doesn’t perform, the credit card company still has your money and can give it right back to you.
Gay Pride March is Canceled and Banned in Belgrade Serbia
Over a hundred people were hurt including around 90 police officers, two seriously. “We are shocked,” he said. “With this the state capitulated … a democratic state should be able to guarantee two hours of security to its citizens.”
LAST YEAR, Serbian riot police fought running battles in Belgrade with mobs of ultra-nationalist youths who tried to disrupt a gay pride gathering that was addressed by the country’s top EU official.
It’s sad. I think many of us who have the luxury of celebrating in cities like New York City, Chicago, Toronto, West Hollywood, Amsterdam and even Sao Paulo, forget how good we have it. Other countries, it can be very scary…
Traditionally conservative societies across the Balkans have been slow to accept open homosexuality and many gay rights events in the region have ended in violence.
Goran Miletic, a human rights activist and an organizer of the pride parade, condemned the decision as a capitulation to hooligans, but said the rally would not go ahead.
We personally attended the Gay Pride in Budapest this year. Government officials were worried there as well. But they deployed 1500 officers in riot gear, to protect the 2500 gay pride marchers for 4 hours. And while there were hostile protesters in the crowd, no one was seriously injured. I think this shows that a city was able to eat the cost, to make the event happen, for the good of LGBT people, and it sent a message to the city, saying violence would not be tolerated in Budapest.
