San Francisco Folsom Street Fair Shakes Up The Religious Right

Gay Porn Blog, this year “Folsom Events set them up — and they took the bait! –  Concerned Women for America has called on CA elected officials to publicly condemn the poster for the 2007 Folsom Street Fair — a parody of the Last Supper with apostle porn stars (Titan Exclusives Tober Brant & Dean Flynn), drag nuns (Sister Roma, natch), and — gasp! — a black Jesus (source Towleroad). – Despite the fact that Folsom Street Fair is a pan-sexual event, and there are women in the poster, they are — of course — blaming the ‘Gays’.”

Virgin America

Richard Branson (Virgin Group). Like JetBlue Airways Corp. seven years ago, San Francisco-based Virgin America is accenting hip customer service on flights aboard new Airbus A320 aircraft in an attempt to build loyalty in an industry with sharply deteriorating reliability and customer satisfaction.

“It’s been a tough battle to try to get Virgin America up and running,” Branson said on Wednesday, reflecting on the opposition he faced from competitors and regulators. – Several U.S.-based carriers and unions opposed Virgin America’s entrance on grounds that Branson would control the company in violation of a U.S. law that limits control of airlines to U.S. citizens. Virgin Group holds a minority stake in the company, which the law permits.

The International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA) is an organization comprised of numerous regional Gay Rodeo Associations from across the United States and Canada. IGRA, in collaboration with member associations, assist these associations in raising and donating thousands of dollars to charity in their communities each year. The Gay and Lesbian Communities of the United States and Canada have been enriched by the educational efforts of IGRA through its sanctioning and sponsorship of the various events and activities which are a part of what we call “Gay Rodeo”.

Gay Rodeo had its beginnings in 1976 at the National Reno Gay Rodeo in Nevada. Over the next eight years local rodeo associations were formed in Colorado, Texas, California, and Arizona. In 1985, these four Gay Rodeo Associations along with Oklahoma founded the IGRA. From these beginnings, the IGRA has spread the Rodeo spirit across the United States and into Canada.

GAY GAMES CHICAGO DECLARED A SUCCESS

2006 Gay Games®, Chicago Games, Inc., (CGI) the host organization for the event, announced this week that it has completed the post-Games fundraising and wind down process and that the 2006 Gay Games broke even. Such a positive financial result reverses a 20-year trend, having not been achieved since Gay Games II in 1986. CGI accomplished the result with 2 fewer years planning time than most Gay Games.

“We are extremely grateful to our many donors, sponsors, volunteers, partners and vendors whose commitment and contributions made today’s announcement possible,” said Tracy Baim, CGI board Co-Vice Chair and leader of the wind-down efforts. “Each deserves the appreciation of our city and the worldwide LGBT sports community.”

“We would like to extend special appreciation to partners Dick Uyvari and Joe La Pat, Chicagoans who significantly funded the 2006 Gay Games international scholarship program and created a Gay Games matching grant program to assist in the post-Games fundraising,” said Sam Coady, CGI Board Co-Chair.

After a heat wave and other circumstances increased expenses and created the need for additional fundraising, Uyvari and La Pat donated additional financial support. Uvyari is a long-time Gay Games supporter, having competed in six of the seven Gay Games. Other key post-Games donors included Fred Eychaner, Michael Leppen, and former U.S. Ambassador James Hormel and his partner, Tim Wu.

The Gay Games have always been a boon for the local economy. Nevertheless, the past three Gay Games host committees lost significant amounts of money, threatening the future of the quadrennial sports & culture festival. For the first time ever, the Gay Games also faced a competing LGBT sports event. Held in Montreal just one week after the Gay Games, that competing event’s host organization ended up losing several million dollars.

/images/39531-36457/gay_swim.jpg”>

Chicago’s business model differentiated itself by dramatically increasing corporate partnerships, relying significantly upon volunteer professionals and pro bono services, establishing a sponsored worldwide marketing and media campaign, and outsourcing non-core elements to third parties.

The 2006 Gay Games themselves contributed $50 to $80 million to the local economy, with some estimating that another 10 years of positive LGBT tourism visibility will generate millions more dollars in the long term.

DISNEY and LAS VEGAS ALLOWS GAY SAME SEX WEDDINGS!

Walt Disney Co. has changed its policy to allow same-sex couples to participate in a popular Fairy Tale Wedding program it runs mainly at its two U.S. resorts AND cruise line, a Disney
spokesman said this week!

Disney previously had allowed gay couples to organize their own weddings or commitment ceremonies at rented meeting rooms at the resorts, but had barred them from purchasing its Fairy Tale Wedding package and holding the event at locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World that are set aside specifically for weddings.

“We are updating our Fairy Tale Wedding guidelines to include commitment ceremonies,” Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman Donn Walker said. “This is consistent with our policy of creating a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all of our guests.”

Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding packages start at $8,000 and include a wedding planner, the ceremony, food and beverages, flowers and table decorations. – It better be fabulous!

/images/39531-36457/Gay_Wedding_Cake_Groomsmen.jpg”>

LAS VEGAS has been welcoming gay ceremonies for a couple years now. Gay Chapel of Las Vegas is Las Vegas’s only gay owned and operated ceremony chapel. “We take pride in offering the finest facilities available to our community”.  Several other chapels in the city also welcome gay unions. And if you really want to whoop it up,  HARRAHS CORP  which runs Caesars, Flamingo, Rio and  Paris, all offer same-sex union packages!  (Treasure Island was offering packages – I don’t know if they still are or not, but I would assume all of the WYNN hotels offer something…)  I had a couple friends who got hitched at Paris and had their cake done by the famed Parisian baker LeNotre! Talk about fabulous! And they said Paris was super gay-friendly!

Getting back to Disney for a moment – Jeffrey Epstein and Eddie Shapiro’s “Queens in the Kingdom: The Ultimate Gay & Lesbian Guide to the Disney Theme Parks,” has just come out now in a revised and expanded second edition.

The book features more than 400 pages of tips on optimum visiting times, prime gay and lesbian Disney attractions and even the best places to share a gay kiss without suffering Ursula’s wrath. “Queens in the Kingdom” is campier than Tinkerbell, but answers each and every question that a gay Disney lover could ever have.

Gay Spring Break – Gays Gone Wild

GAYS GONE WILD – GAY SPRING BREAK!

Where are you going? Where are you staying? Who are you doing?! March and April are crazy times that gay college students have now organized huge party weeks, much like the straight teenagers did and still do. But now if you’re gay, you don’t have to go to Daytona Beach with all your straight beer-drinking friends. Now you have choices!  Key West, Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs, Ft. Lauderdale and Honolulu,
have now become top choices for gay college students.

Gay Spring Break 2007- claimsto be  the world’s premier GLBT spring break event! Held in Key West, Florida in March and April, GLBT students from around the world will converge on the beaches and in the streets of America’s Southernmost City to celebrate spring break in a place that embraces individuality, diversity, and openness. Gay Spring Break 2007 will feature some of the nation’s best dance DJ’s, beach parties, drag shows, snorkeling, jet-skiing, and musicians in a town known for its crazy nightlife and ability to throw a great party. Over 500 events! Events include, but are not limited to: dance parties, beach parties, toga parties, men-only and women-only parties, gay snorkeling trips, and a large street dance party.

Puerto Vallarta is always one of my favorites! Beaches, pools, palapas and tantalizing arrays of talent add searing-hot spice to Mexico’s unofficial gay capital. Making it easier to major in hot men, Luxe Travel‘s first organized Gay Spring Break (800/661-4728×11; gayspringbreakvacations.com; $479-1,428) is a marvelous melee of rooftop tea parties and pool parties, and opportunities to swim with dolphins or hot holidaymakers.  Gay ground zero is the blue chairs (in front of the Blue Chairs resort) on Playa Los Muertos, so popular that it has now spilled over into the green chairs of the café next door.

Fort Lauderdale offers two-dozen gay guesthouses fill to overflowing with a sophisticated adult crowd, drawn to this sunny resort city with thrilling nightlife. The hottest point of 23 miles of sun-baked beachfront is Sebastian Beach where the throngs mingle all day long. OFFICIALLY, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, said of the former spring break hot spot, which is undergoing high end construction, “There is no welcome place for college spring break.” – I think all the straight kids  who crammed 10 people in a room and trashed the places, now seek Spring break elsewhere. With ritzy places like the W and TRUMP, Ft. Lauderdale now attracts a different crowd.

Gay Times at Rehoboth Beach – Deleware

Reader’s Digest named the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk as “Best of America”. AARP has named Rehoboth Beach as one of five dream towns as “Best Places to Retire”. Located on the Atlantic Coast only two hours from Washington, D.C., Baltimore, MD, or Philadelphia, PA., this town combines the best in hospitality, a beautiful beach and genuine small town character. The sands of Rehoboth have been recognized as one of the top ten beaches in America by several travel magazines and rightly so! The one end of the mile end boardwalk is traditionally packed with gay men. It has been known for years as Poodle Beach and is located at the end of Queen Street!

Rehoboth Beach was founded in the 1870’s as the site of a religious camp. Following the development of a railroad and boardwalk in the 1900’s, Rehoboth Beach evolved into an active resort town. Today, it stands as a year-round gay resort, with more than 200 gay-owned restaurants, shops, lodgings and night spots.

Thought of as the Mid-Atlantic region’s answer to
Key West or Provincetown, Rehoboth boasts two gay beaches with plenty of eye candy to look at and a lively boardwalk full of arcades, eateries and bars. Many of the restaurants and attractions are surprisingly affordable, and there’s a great mix of cheap, elegant and trendy. This means you can grab a hot dog, stop at a crab shack, ride the bumper cars or spend the day at a spa or sit down for a lavish dinner.

Now the biggest challenge is actually getting here. Public transportation is practically nonexistent, so you must drive. If you are flying, the driving time from either Washington’s National, Baltimore’s BWI or the Philadelphia area airport is about the same: 2.5 hours depending on traffic. From the Baltimore Washington area, you’ll have the pleasure/horror of driving over the mighty Chesapeake River on the Bay Bridge and going from four lanes of traffic to one lane and through farm land and speed trap towns. It’s all part of the experience of what the locals call this ‘slower lower’ part of Delaware-Sussex County.

There are some gay places to stay at. Another very popular option is to bring a group of your friends and rent an entire beach house. Rehoboth is a place where many straight families also summer, but don’t let this discourage your coming. You know how it goes, the gays make somewhere fabulous and all the straights want to come! There are many lesbian- and gay-owned and friendly businesses throughout the town even on the main drag, Rehoboth Avenue. Harassment is not tolerated and the local police back up this policy with vigilance.

There is  lots of useful information online
about Rehoboth. Famous for its beaches, eclectic shops, amusements and sporting activities, gay Rehoboth Beach continues to be one of America’s favorite gay summer destinations. If you can make it for a summer holiday party weekend, big celebrations take place Memorial  Day, Labor Day, and the 4th of July. But plan ahead and book early!

GAY PALM SPINGS for Easter

IT IS SO COLD IN CHICAGO THIS MONTH!

I just want to get out of here!

I have friends who just got back from Puerto-Vallarta, friends going to New Orleans next week, and  friends heading to Miami for Winter Party in 2 weeks! And I am stuck here in the cold, righting about warm and glamourous places!

CALIFORNIA is my favorite state. It’s really breathtakingly beautiful. And Spring is such a great time to go to PALM SPRINGS.

Dual Dinah Shore rosters (www.thedinah.com & www.dinahshoreweekend.com ) will feminize P.S. from March 28 to April 1, just before the infamous White Party (www.jeffreysanker.com ) rearranges the circuitry April 6-9. For alt-music lovers, the behemoth Coachella Valley Music Festival (with rumors this year of a Bowie show) is in nearby Indio from April 27 to 29.

There are great gay places to stay in Palm Springs – and many are clothing optional. It’s so hot there, you know….. But if you’re going for an enent weekend, like White Party, prices double and it’s most likely sold out already for this year. Crowds swell to 20,000. It’s a boyfest!

Gay Palm Springs has been referred to by many as a new Gay Mecca. The city boasts a very large and diverse Gay resident population and has become a prime travel destination from the West coast (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle), Midwest, Northeast, Southwest, as well as internationally. More and more Gay visitors from the Pacific Rim, Europe and South America are discovering Palm Springs’ Gay-friendly spirit.

There is something truly special about Gay Palm Springs beyond its beautiful oasis setting in the arid Southern California desert. The Greater Palm Springs area has more Gay and Gay-Friendly restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, retailers and other businesses than any other one gay destination. Here in Palm Springs, more than anywhere else, Gay men and women of all ages and from all backgrounds and places visit and are welcomed by the community.

In fact, Palm Springs during the last five (5) years has experienced an explosion of new Gay residents and new Gay businesses. The resident Gay population is now estimated at 40 percent of the population. Gays are welcomed in Gay-friendly Palm Springs.

So if anyone is going there, and need a travel guide, I am very knowledgable and won’t take up much room!

Gay San Diego – Not So Sleepy Anymore

/images/39531-36457/sd2.jpg” width=424>

                                    /images/39531-36457/sd1.jpg”>

There is lots to see and do here! Take a hot air balloon ride at sunset, spend an afternoon
watching hang-gliders off the cliffs of La Jolla while enjoying the sun and surf at the popular,
nude Black’s Beach; ( At least one nude beach or topless beach can be found in almost every
county along the California coast. )  or drive to Coronado to visit The Hotel Del Coronado where
you can dine and sip cocktails against the breathtaking backdrop of a national historic landmark
coastline. It was here that a cross-dressing Tony Curtis lost his heart to a wonderfully dizzy
Marilyn Monroe in the hilarious film Some Like It Hot.

A red trolley or taxi will take you from the skyscrapers of downtown to the Mexican border where
the bargain hunter’s mecca of Tijuana awaits. Enjoy the museums, concerts, cafes, aquarium,
and the country’s most exquisite zoo in downtown Balboa Park, (Balboa Park is AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
You could spend a day here sightseeing!) or visit the “Old Town” for a flavor of San Diego’s origins.
Or, just experience the haunting fragrance of eucalyptus as the sea mists sweep in over the cliffs
and shroud the ancient Torre pines with the roar of the surf. – There’s lots of gay nightlife in SD too!
In and around Hillcrest.

/images/39531-36457/min4.jpg” width=227> /images/39531-36457/sd4.jpg”>

With more and more gay people moving to San Diego, the same thing could happen here like it
did in Ft. Lauderdale. It’s worth checking out! Art, cluture, gay community, perfect weather and hot men!

Gay Winter Travel

   THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL…..

But    the     men    are     so       delightful!

As cold air hits many of us, thoughts turn to warm weather travel –  unless you want to go skiiing.

Miami will be ahot spot, especially  Feb  28 – March 5th, as they celebrate the Annual Winter Party!
Winter PartySM Festival is a celebration of social and cultural events (including art, dance, music, comedy, sports and more) benefiting the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. The week of events culminates with The Beach Party, a world-class dance party attended by over 5,400 visitors in the hottest destination in the United States – South Beach. Approximately 10,000 participants from all over the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Australia attend the 6-day celebration.

MEXICO is another gay favorite in the winter. Mexico City, Cancun, Los Cabos, and my favorite, Puerto Vallarta!

Puerto Vallartas gay identify was formed in the mid 1990’s with gay folks arriving from San Francisco and the Canadian west cost to open business celebrate the happiness of life and enjoy the splendid weather. Before the 1990’s Vallarta was one of Mexico’s most conservative resorts area.

Acapulco’s gay life  took hold in the 1950’s when the rich and famous made Acapulco the place to be. Unfortunately in the mid 1990’s Acapulco’s gay friendly attitude soured due to a number of pedophiles that took advantage of the libertine atmosphere. Police crackdowns along with corruption has made the town uncomfortable for gay men, most of who just wanted to enjoy the beautiful beach.

Cancun is developing a gay life of its own but, the bars are far apart and you can only get to by taxi. The days of the forty-dollar a day hotel room next to the beach are long gone. But our experts are driven to get you the best possible value and will continue to do so. Mexican beach resorts areas are most active during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years season and Easter. The Easter week holiday is one of the largest for Mexican vacationers, if you decide to go at this time of the year reserve your room early and you will have the time of your life with the Mexican party boys and girls.

HEARST CASTLE & THE MADONNA INN

CALIFORNIA is such an amazing state. It’s really my favorite state. It has everything! San Francisco & Napa, Palm Springs, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara,  Pebble Beach and the amazing 17 mile drive, and we’ll talk about all the areas in coming months.

But in this installment, we’re talking about San Luis Obispo area, home of the HEARST CASTLE / SAN SIMEON HISTORICAL MONUMENT and the MADONNA INN.

Halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles along the central California coastline is a meeting of land and sea that is an integral part of the California State Parks system. Beaches, waterfalls, natural and cultural preserves are all part of the Central Coast State Parks. In this breathtaking region, redwoods march down to the sea, wildlife thrives along the rugged coastline, and sand dunes protect endangered plants and animals as part of this natural treasure. This is where William Randolph Hearst decided to build his magical castle!

The entire compound is 90,000 square feet, with the main house being 60,000 square feet, 38 bedrooms and 41 bathrooms. 3  guest houses and a spectacular outdoor pool as well as a magical indoor pool. Did I mention 41 fireplaces?! Hearsts’ father bought 40,000 acres initially and over the years, Randolph acquired another 210,000 acres around it!

The estate is a pastiche of historic architectural styles that Hearst admired in his travels around Europe. For example, the main house is modeled after a 16th century Spanish cathedral, while the outdoor pool features an ancient Roman temple front transported wholesale from Europe and reconstructed at the site. Hearst furnished the estate with truckloads of art, antiques, and even whole ceilings that he acquired en masse from Europe and Egypt.

Originally known as “Camp Hill,” its wilderness offered a place for family members and friends to “rough it” on camping trips. Despite elaborate arrangements with separate sleeping and dining tents, Hearst envisioned more comfortable accommodations. His simple instructions to famed San Francisco architect Julia Morgan in 1919: “Miss Morgan, we are tired of camping out in the open at the ranch in San Simeon and I would like to build a little something.”

Did he say “little something”?  Hearst and Morgan’s collaboration has become one of the world’s greatest showplaces. The state of Californina owns it now and tours are given daily. It’s truly a MUST SEE. And when you are there, you might as well run over to the MADONNA INN, at least for dinner, if not a sleep over!

A landmark on California’s Central Coast for over forty-five years! The world-renowned Madonna Inn offers 109 rooms, each uniquely decorated with a special theme and color scheme, no two alike! It’s very dated 60’s-70’s, but very cool! Very over the top!

Enjoy a great  meal in the Copper Café & Pastry Shop or Alex Madonna’s Gold Rush Steak House. Dance the night away in the Silver Bar Cocktail Lounge. Shop in one of three specialty stores: Classic Gourmet and Wine Shop, “My Favorite Things” Boutique, and The Brass Tower Men’s Clothing Store. Indulge in a bit of pampering in the Whispering Hills Massage Center.

Rooms run about $150-$250. And themes like the Bedrock Room with Waterfall shower are very popular! There is also the Austrian Suite, China Flower, Dot & Daisy, Love Birds, Manhattan Room, and Safari.

The restaurant is eye-popping and jaw-dropping! Treat yourself to unforgettable fine casual dining, indulge in a delicious oak-pit-barbecued steak or seafood dinner in the warm and inviting Gold Rush Steak House. It’s a spot to remember with outstanding service, superb wine list, mouthwatering entrees, and rich desserts. And they have  elaborate fantasy holiday decorations— just spectacular!  And don’t forget to pee before you leave!

A trip to San Luis Obispo wouldn’t be complete without visiting the men’s room at the Madonna Inn. As crazy as it sounds, this room is a popular stop for both men and women. Unfortunately, if you’re a man and need to use this for it’s original purpose, be prepared to be interrupted by giggling women with cameras.  Once you enter the main building, go down the staircase at the right. This will take you to the wine cellar, and pay phone in the Flintstones-like rock cave. The men’s restroom is to the left. Here you’ll find the attraction… a urinal that looks like a waterfall which is activated when you break a beam of light.

This place is another MUST SEE!

WYOMING BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN IN CANADA

Looking to climb Brokeback Mountain? Head to Canada

According to USA TODAY, the hottest spot on Wyoming’s tourist map these days doesn’t truly exist. But that isn’t stopping fans of Brokeback Mountain from ringing up the state’s tourism office with queries about how to get there.

Hundreds of calls asking about the location of Brokeback Mountain have come in since the movie’s release last year.

If the responders were in full disclosure, they’d explain that the peaks featured in the film are 700 miles or so north of Wyoming in Alberta’s Canadian Rockies. But not being the sorts to let a marketing opportunity slip by, employees tell callers that while the movie wasn’t actually filmed in Wyoming and there is no mountain by that name, director Ang Lee captured the spirit of Wyoming’s Big Horn Mountains. Lower production costs spurred the move to Canada.
