Rainbow Rampage – The Ultimate Gay Road Rally Party in Europe and United States

The world’s first gay centric motorsports event is set to launch two events this summer that will highlight the daily destinations rather than the speed of individual participants. The Rainbow Rampage is a fabulous expression of spirit. Welcoming participants of every color and stripe to represent the full spectrum of gay identities, personalities and style for the “Ultimate Gay Party.”

The first rally begins in Brighton, England with parties and a grand official send off before crossing the channel and heading to the first stage destination: Paris. Following a course designed to highlight spectacular non-highway roads, participating in fun challenges that urge participants to take in their surroundings while enjoying a non-stop gay festival of Europe’s greatest cities; Paris, Amsterdam,Hamburg, Berlin, Prague and Vienna.

The Rainbow Rampage is essentially a large group road trip that precedes the gay pride parade in Budapest, where the tour ends. Participants are given free entry to participate in the parade as a grand finale that also includes luxury accommodations at one of Budapest’s famous spa hotels.

June 28th – July 4th, 2008          Sept. 27th – Oct. 3rd, 2008
7 days – 2300  miles                     7 days – 2200  miles

The US Rainbow Rampage will follow a route through Seattle, Crater Lake, South Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Las Vegas, Joshua Tree National Park, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Lead Organizer, Guy Zucker, hopes that there will be a growing
“awareness that this event is taking place,” and that organizers are
looking for “local support … especially reaching [out] to the gay
community at each stage along the way.” It may be the first event of
its kind but with GLBT travelers accounting for ever increasing
participation in major cities and luxury vacations known to be gay
friendly destinations, it was only a matter of putting it together.

Cher has signed a 3 year, 200  show  $60 million deal with Ceasar’s Palace.

We reported here a couple months back, that Better Midler was in fact replacing Celine Dion at Ceasars. Allegedly Midler signed a 2 year contract, 200 show deal. Negotiations were also going on with Diana Ross but eventually fell apart. And Ceasars is said to have extended Elton Johns current contract out for another year.  Cher will open her show in May and says it will be “Visually Unbelievable”!

For 100 years, TIMES SQUARE in NEW YORK has drawn huge crowds for their annual New Years Eve celebration! More than 1 million people crowded the streets last night.

Elsewhere around the world, JAPAN (top left) inundate their postal system with New Years Greeting cards to one another. The post office starts accpeting the greeting cards around mid-December, but do not deliver them until New Years Day. – an you imagine our post office delivering cards on Christmas day?!

In Mexico (top right), several superstitions are noted. Family and friends gather and each eat 12 grapes, one for each stroke of midnight, and make a wish for each grape consumed.  (Can’t you just drink some champagne and make wishes….)  Also it is believed that if you wear red underwear on December 31st, you will have good luck with love in the new year. If you wear yellow underwear, you will have good luck in financial matters in the new year. And if you take your luggage out and walk around the block, travel will come to you in the new year!

In Ecuador ( left), they celebrate New Years Eve with the “anos viejos”, or old years, which are stuffed dummies made with paper and sawdust and fireworks – which are then burned. The dummies represent various local and international personalities that represent the passing year.  Children and women – and even some men dressed as women –  wear black and play the role of the old years widow and ask for money and candy in the street for the dummies funeral!

And in Brazil (below ) the Saint Silvester Road Race is the oldest and most prestigious street race in Brazil. For 80 years now, on December 31st, this marathon runs about 9 miles, but with the harsh weather conditions frequently leave runners with heat stroke and dehydration! – Oh yeah, sign me up, that’s how I want to spend my New Years Eve!

New Year’s Eve is marked by festive Fiesta de Iemanjá held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Crowds head to the beaches to offer flowers and gifts to Iemanjá, the Goddess of the Water in the Brazilian Umbanda religion. The Copacabana beach is flocked with millions of people who come to visualize the colorful candles floating on sea.

World’s First Gay Island …Sort Of

Heading out on a gay cruise was already a bit yesterday when Aussie company AllGayCruises started up earlier this year, but now they’ve taken things to the next level. The company’s now creating Australia’s first gay island.

Strictly speaking, the island already exists–it’s Lindeman Island off the Queensland coast–and it will only be gay for a week. But it sounds like it’ll be a particularly colorful event. For six days immediately following the Sydney Mardi Gras in March 2008 (post Mardi Gras March 4- 9), AllGayCruises has basically rented out the whole of Lindeman Island for a massive gay party. –  690 hectares of World Heritage National Parkland, off the Great Barrier Reef!

Seven big dance parties, a swimwear model contest, comedy nights and even the Gaylimpics will make sure that the fun really doesn’t stop on Lindeman. You can already book accommodation, meal and party packages starting at A$1,299 per person ($1,150). Btw, the whole event is called Shipwrecked!, which we hope is not a bad sign of things to come.

“This special week of an All Gay, all inclusive Tropical Island resort for 6 days & 5 nights is designed to create the perfect tropical Island holiday in a welcoming gay & lesbian environment. Get ready for a week filled with world-class sports, endless activities, and exciting entertainment. Whether it’s water sports, bushwalking, or sipping cocktails by the pool, we’ve got it all!”

San Francisco Folsom Street Fair Shakes Up The Religious Right

Gay Porn Blog, this year “Folsom Events set them up — and they took the bait! –  Concerned Women for America has called on CA elected officials to publicly condemn the poster for the 2007 Folsom Street Fair — a parody of the Last Supper with apostle porn stars (Titan Exclusives Tober Brant & Dean Flynn), drag nuns (Sister Roma, natch), and — gasp! — a black Jesus (source Towleroad). – Despite the fact that Folsom Street Fair is a pan-sexual event, and there are women in the poster, they are — of course — blaming the ‘Gays’.”

Gay Weekend Latin Fever in Puerto Vallarta

Latin Fever 10 aims to heat things up over the Thanksgiving holiday. Presented annually by promoters Will Gorges and Gilles Belanger, expect a fiesta of sun, sand and wild hedonism!

Now in its tenth year, the organizers hope that the event will be more intimate and friendly than other parties on the circuit. Drawing men from all over Mexico, the party also gets a large contingency from the West Coast, Toronto, and Europe, specifically London and Amsterdam.

It all started 10 years ago promoter Will Gorges remembers… “Everyone was going to Miami for Thanksgiving for the WHITE PARTY. Myself, I was tired of going to Miami. I wanted something different. I had been to Puerto Vallarta before and came back for another visit and was amazed at the growth and how many gay people were coming here. So, we threw our first party! It was sort of a Mexican Fiesta and a few dozen people came that first year!”

Ten years later, a couple thousand people come now! Puerto Vallarta is affordable. “You can rent a condo or a villa and bring a whole group of friends. It’s not your typical circuit party weekend. In comparison to Miami where there are about 30 parties in 5 days. Party, party, party. LATIN FEVER offers a relaxing gay weekend vacation with a handful of parties thrown in.”

DJs and guests will include
DJ Cary Stringfellow from LA, DJ Oscar Velazquez from Mexico City, DJ Ramses from PV and featuring drag icon Lady Bunny from New York City and international club diva Sofonda Cox from Toronto Canada!

Parties include the legendary WHITE PARTY on Friday November 23rd at Oscars on the Rio Cuale, SQUIRT Party on the Rooftop of the Blue Chairs Resort, and the SUNSET POOL PARTY on the rooftop of Brisas Del Mar Hotel! PLUS, many more surprises!

Ethan Reynolds were in Chicago this past weekend and we had the chance to meet them in person! And let me tell you, they are even hotter in person and those asses! OMG! Their bodies are flawless. And they are really super nice as well.

Ethan runs a fun site called Brat Boy School. And Benjamin can found at The Project Be. Stop by and show them some love!

largest Gay Parade in the world takes place this Sunday (10th) along 4km of Avenida Paulista in São Paulo city. The parade started in 1997 with around 2000 people, grew to over 2 million people in 2005, and 3 million last year. The parade includes a mix of both homosexual and heterosexuals, both involved in the parade and as an audience to it, protesting against racism, homophobia and male chauvinism. Around 1 million evangelical Christians have tried to steal some of the parade’s thunder by marching on Avenida Paulista yesterday, protesting against homosexuality.

São Paulo is a MegaCity in South America. In addition to being the third largest metropolitan area in the world, it is also the weathiest and most commercial center in the southern hemisphere.

São Paulo has an excellent gay life. Over 40 bars, clubs and saunas. Please note, that some saunas are frequented by rent boys so agree a price before you have fun!

Sao Paulo and its rival Brazilian city, Rio de Janeiro, have often been compared to New York and Los Angeles respectively. If Rio has gained fame for its striking natural setting, Sao Paulo’s attraction lies in its people and its vibrant cultures. The Avenida Paulista’s canyon of upthrusting skyscrapers only hints at the city’s sources of energy. A more cosmopolitan city than its counterpart, Sao Paulo possesses significant ethnic minority communities, including substantial Japanese, Italian, and Arab and Lebanese Christian neighbourhoods.

Gay Spring Break – Gays Gone Wild

Where are you going? Where are you staying? Who are you doing?! March and April are crazy times that gay college students have now organized huge party weeks, much like the straight teenagers did and still do. But now if you’re gay, you don’t have to go to Daytona Beach with all your straight beer-drinking friends. Now you have choices!  Key West, Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs, Ft. Lauderdale and Honolulu,
have now become top choices for gay college students.

Gay Spring Break 2007- claimsto be  the world’s premier GLBT spring break event! Held in Key West, Florida in March and April, GLBT students from around the world will converge on the beaches and in the streets of America’s Southernmost City to celebrate spring break in a place that embraces individuality, diversity, and openness. Gay Spring Break 2007 will feature some of the nation’s best dance DJ’s, beach parties, drag shows, snorkeling, jet-skiing, and musicians in a town known for its crazy nightlife and ability to throw a great party. Over 500 events! Events include, but are not limited to: dance parties, beach parties, toga parties, men-only and women-only parties, gay snorkeling trips, and a large street dance party.

Puerto Vallarta is always one of my favorites! Beaches, pools, palapas and tantalizing arrays of talent add searing-hot spice to Mexico’s unofficial gay capital. Making it easier to major in hot men, Luxe Travel‘s first organized Gay Spring Break (800/661-4728×11;; $479-1,428) is a marvelous melee of rooftop tea parties and pool parties, and opportunities to swim with dolphins or hot holidaymakers.  Gay ground zero is the blue chairs (in front of the Blue Chairs resort) on Playa Los Muertos, so popular that it has now spilled over into the green chairs of the café next door.

Fort Lauderdale offers two-dozen gay guesthouses fill to overflowing with a sophisticated adult crowd, drawn to this sunny resort city with thrilling nightlife. The hottest point of 23 miles of sun-baked beachfront is Sebastian Beach where the throngs mingle all day long. OFFICIALLY, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, said of the former spring break hot spot, which is undergoing high end construction, “There is no welcome place for college spring break.” – I think all the straight kids  who crammed 10 people in a room and trashed the places, now seek Spring break elsewhere. With ritzy places like the W and TRUMP, Ft. Lauderdale now attracts a different crowd.

BRAVO picks up Kathy Griffin and she’s on tour!

OK – So how does Kathy Griffin end up on  a  gay travel site?

Well, she’s from Chicago, my home base; we adore her; gays love her; and she’s on tour traveling!
See the connection?!

I just read today she has renewed with BRAVO for a third season and was so excited, I wanted to share  the information! Plus, she’s coming to Chicago in March so I am double – excited!

Bravo announced the  official season three order for the Emmy nominated series The D-List in December. Somehow I missed that Press Release…..Frances Berwick, of Bravo was quoted: “Kathy’s unique style of comedy is brilliantly showcased with this series, and the new season will continue to show her D-List life in hilarious Technicolor.” A six-episode rollout is slated for summer 2007.

There’s lots of great info on Kathy’s Website.
Including tour dates!

She’ll be all over the Midwest – Ohio, Michigan, some dates in Las Vegas, and CHICAGO.
In Chicago, she’ll be at the newly opened and renovated gorgeous LASALLE THEATRE
March 23rd and 24th.

            Kathy and her “gays”:

Kathy Griffin knows gay men. The stand-up comic and darling of situation comedies from “Seinfeld” to “The Drew Carey Show,” Griffin has always embraced (maybe even French kissed) her loyal and enthusiastic gay audience.

She has volunteered at AIDS fund-raisers for many years. – “Do those things get sickening after a while because they are so not about the disease, or are people really focused on why they are there?”

I would say its a little of everything. When you are dealing with the AIDS organizations, a lot of thosee people are very personally touched by that disease. My gripe is I have a big problem with where that money really goes. And I have to say, after 9/11 it was a big wake-up call for everybody. What bothers me is that charities aren’t run like businesses at all. People aren’t accountable. The people that run these charities get giant salaries. I don’t want to do a charity event that is going to cost $100,000 to put on, end they make $100,000. That’s what pisses me off. You know what my least favorite phrase in the charity world is? “Portions of the proceeds.” I don’t like that phrase. How much is going where, and when is someone going to check up on it?

For more on Kathy and her Gays read the Frontiers interview!

You tell em girl!  We  love you because you tell it like it is!
